EBR Jamboree 2026: Battle on the Bluff Set the Stage With Press Conference at Southern University
BATON ROUGE, La. — August 26, 2026 — Before the lights came on inside A.W. Mumford Stadium, the 2026 EBR high school football season began with conversation, excitement and a look ahead at what was to come.
Coaches, student-athletes, cheerleaders, school representatives and members of the local community gathered Wednesday, August 26, at the Southern University Field House for the official press conference leading into the 2026 Battle on the Bluff High School Jamboree.
The event brought together representatives from schools across East Baton Rouge Parish and gave student-athletes an opportunity to speak about their programs, their preparation and the excitement surrounding the start of another football season.
Rather than the competition that would follow on the field, Wednesday’s gathering centered on the people behind the programs.
Players spoke about representing their schools. Coaches discussed the work their teams had put in throughout the offseason. Cheerleaders and other school representatives helped showcase the pride and traditions surrounding each campus.
The press conference also created an opportunity for programs from across the parish to share the same space before becoming opponents over the next two nights.
For the student-athletes, the jamboree represented one of the first opportunities to step onto the field in a game-day environment following months of preparation. For the coaches, it provided an early look at their teams under the lights. And for families and supporters, the week signaled something many had been waiting for — the return of high school football.
Student media members were part of the experience as well.
SLV Hornets TV, the student media program at Scotlandville Magnet High School, conducted interviews throughout the press conference while gaining hands-on experience covering a major community sporting event. Students interviewed athletes, coaches, cheerleaders and local leaders while working in a professional media environment.
BlackHouse Sports also documented the event as part of its coverage of the 2026 jamboree.
The press conference served as the opening chapter of a three-day celebration of high school athletics in Baton Rouge.
One day later, attention shifted from the microphones to the field as six games were played across two nights at Southern University’s A.W. Mumford Stadium.
